View from the Balcony 31/05/2010

Well, here I am sitting at the small table out on the Balcony eating my saucepan made porridge.

The temperature is a pleasant 24C and the sun is streaming unimpeded into the Unit, warming the Lounge carpet much to GTF's delight.

There is a slight breeze coming from the Hinterland and it appears to be concentrating on heading out over the sea with a 'tunnel vision' determination, no time to stop off for a brief respite and linger amongst the greenery on the Balcony.

The sea has turned into a rich deep blue and an occasional small whitecaps can be seen in the distance, ever so briefly waving to those looking out from the shoreline.

Above the horizon line a small string of puff clouds are stretched out, resting lazily and going nowhere in a hurry. The sky above is a clear light blue turning into a mid blue wash as it fans out away from the rising sun.

The Point is free from surfers as the swell is not significant enough to warrant their attention.

Likewise the Esplanade has only the odd walker and jogger using the facilities that the local Council keeps under close management.

It is a beautiful morning!

Perception - Two sides to the same event!!

This came from my good friend, young 'Patto'

Perception IS NOT Reality...

Two women are chatting in an office.

Woman 1: I had sex last night, did you?

Woman 2: Yes.

Woman 1: Was it good?

Woman 2: No, it was a disaster... my husband came home, ate his dinner
in three minutes, got on top of me, finished having sex in five
minutes, rolled over and fell asleep in two minutes. How was yours?

Woman 1: Oh it was amazing! My husband came home and took me out to a
romantic dinner. After dinner we walked for an hour. When we came home
he lit the candles around the house and we had an hour of foreplay. We
then had an hour long session of fantastic sex and afterwards talked
for an hour. It was like a fairy tale!

At the same time, their husbands are talking at work.

Husband 1: You went home to have sex last night, did you score?

Husband 2: Yes it was great. I came home, dinner was on the table, I
ate, had sex with my wife and fell asleep. Perfect! How did you go?

Husband 1: It was horrible. I came home, there's no dinner because the
electricity was cut, I hadn't paid the bill. Had to take my wife out
to dinner which was so expensive that I didn't have money for a cab.

We walked home which took an hour - and when we get home I remember
there is no electricity so I had to light candles all over the house!

I was so angry that I couldn't get it up for an hour and then I
couldn't climax for another hour. After I finally did, I was so
ticked off that I couldn't fall asleep and my wife was jabbering away
for another hour!

Timing is everything!

Thanks to young Ninure for this piece.

TIMING IS EVERYTHING

The following story comes from John Kanary in "Chicken Soup for the Soul":

Charlie Boswell was blinded during World War II while rescuing his friend from a tank that was under fire. He was a great athlete before his accident and in a testimony to his talent and determination he decided to try a brand new sport, a sport he never imagined playing, even with his eyesight . ..golf!

Through determination and a deep love for the game he became the National Blind Golf Champion! He won that honor 13 times. One of his heroes was the great golfer Ben Hogan, so it truly was an honor for Charlie to win the Ben Hogan Award in 1958.

Upon meeting Ben Hogan, Charlie was awestruck and stated that he had one wish and it was to have one round of golf with the great Ben Hogan. Mr. Hogan agreed that playing a round together would be an honor for him as well, as he had heard about all of Charlie's accomplishments and truly admired his skills.

"Would you like to play for money, Mr. Hogan?" blurted out Charlie.

"I can't play you for money, it wouldn't be fair!" said Mr. Hogan.

"Aw, come on, Mr. Hogan.....$1,000 per hole!"

"I can't, what would people think of me, taking advantage of you and your circumstance," replied the sighted golfer.

"Chicken, Mr. Hogan?"

"Okay," blurted a frustrated Hogan, "but I am going to play my best!"

"I wouldn't expect anything else," said the confident Boswell.

"You're on Mr. Boswell, you name the time and the place!"

A very self-assured Boswell responded: "10 o'clock . . . tonight!"

Timing is everything! As Solomon said, "To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven." (Eccl. 3:1). But the problem for me has always been doing or saying something at the right time. So often, I'll leave a conversation and hours later be thinking, "That's what I should have said!", but it's too late, the time has passed.

Solomon also said, "A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, and a word spoken in due season, how good it is!" (Prov. 15:23), or as the NCV translates it, "People enjoy giving good advice. Saying the right word at the right time is so pleasing."

Father, may the words I speak today be "the right words at the right time" both to be of help to others and to be a glory to You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Have a great day!

View from the Balcony 22/05/2010

It was a late night last night and so it was with sleep in my eyes that I fully opened the glass sliding doors and stepped out onto the Balcony. The sudden contact of the cold tiles on my feet quickly brought me to life.

The air is still with only a zephyr of movement passing by giving the leaves of the Balcony greenery a slight touch, much like a feather brushed across the forehead leaves a slight tingle.

The sea is calm with barely a ripple showing on the surface with the waves only breaking at the last moment before they rush up the beach only to disappear into the golden sands to be forever lost.

Along the horizon, stretched out across the scene from left to right a large bank of heavy grey cloud is putting up a solid wall of resistance as in not allowing the rising sun to be seen as it immediately indicates its presence as it shoots out golden rays of light into the heavens.

The clear sky above is in the throes of changing from a dark blue through the spectrum of orange and pinks into light blue as the sun has now ascended above the so called grey wall of resistance.

At the Point all is quiet as without the chance of being able to ride a wave or two there was no incentive for any surfer to be out on the water.

However, it is a different story when it comes to the Esplanade as a number of walkers and joggers are nikeing along at various speeds. Even the beach is playing host to the occasional walker as well.

At the rear, the Hinterland has completely discarded its overnight covering of mist and is already flexing its greenery for all to admire.

Yes, another great day is upon us here at Burleigh!!

Things about Men - Written for Women

The following came from a post by young Suz. I believe that the source was from Opra.

I also can recommend the book 'Act like a Lady, Think like a Man' by Steve Harvey. This book pulls no punches and the language can be pretty raw at times, depending on your upbringing, but the contents are sound.

If a man wants you, nothing can keep him away.
If he doesn't want you, nothing can make him stay.
Stop making excuses for a man and his behaviour.
Allow your intuition (or spirit) to save you from heartache.
Stop trying to change yourself for a relationship that's not meant to be.

Slower is better.

Never live your life for a man before you find what makes you truly happy.

If a relationship ends because the man was not treating you as you deserve then heck no, you can't 'be friends'. A friend wouldn't mistreat a friend.
Don't settle.

If you feel like he is stringing you along, then he probably is
Don't stay because you think 'it will get better'
You'll be mad at yourself a year later for staying when things are not better.
The only person you can control in a relationship is you.

Avoid men who've got a bunch of children by a bunch of different women..
He didn't marry them when he got them pregnant, why would he treat you any differently?

Always have your own set of friends separate from his.

Maintain boundaries in how a guy treats you. If something bothers you, speak up..

Never let a man know everything.* He will use it against you later.

You cannot change a man's behavior.* Change comes from within.

Don't EVER make him feel he is more important than you are...
Even if he has more education or in a better job.

Do not make him into a quasi-god.
He is a man, nothing more nothing less.

Never let a man define who you are.

Never borrow someone else's man.

If he cheated with you, he'll cheat on you.

A man will only treat you the way you ALLOW him to treat you.

All men are NOT dogs.

You should not be the one doing all the bending...
Compromise is two way street.

You need time to heal between relationships. ..
There is nothing cute about baggage...
Deal with your issues before pursuing a new relationship

You should never look for someone to COMPLETE you...
A relationship consists of two WHOLE individuals. ..
Look for someone complimentary. Not supplementary.

Dating is fun...even if he doesn't turn out to be Mr. Right.

Make him miss you sometimes... when a man always know where you are, and you're always readily available to him - he takes it for granted

Never move into his mother's house.. Never co-sign for a man.

Don't fully commit to a man who doesn't give you everything that you need.*
Keep him in your radar but get to know others.

Scared of being alone is what makes a lot of women stay in relationships that are abusive or hurtful: Dr. Phill

You should know that:
You're the best thing that could ever happen to anyone and if a man mistreats you, he'll miss out on a good thing. If he was attracted to you in the 1st place, just know that he's not the only one.

They're all watching you, so you have a lot of choices.
Make the right one.

Ladies take care of your own hearts....

Old dogs and new tricks...has a certain ring to it.

One day an old German Shepherd starts chasing rabbits and before long, discovers that he's lost. Wandering about, he notices a panther heading rapidly in his direction with the intention of having lunch.

The old German Shepherd thinks, 'Oh, oh! I'm in deep doo-doo now!' Noticing some bones on the ground close by, he immediately settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching cat. Just as the panther is about to leap, the old German Shepherd exclaims loudly, 'Boy, that was one delicious panther! I wonder, if there are any more around here?'

Hearing this, the young panther halts his attack in mid-strike, a look of terror comes over him and he slinks away into the trees. 'Whew!' says the panther, 'That was close! That old German Shepherd nearly had me!'

Meanwhile, a squirrel who had been watching the whole scene from a nearby tree, figures he can put this knowledge to good use and trade it for protection from the panther. So, off he goes.

The squirrel soon catches up with the panther, spills the beans and strikes a deal for himself with the panther.

The young panther is furious at being made a fool of and says, 'Here, squirrel, hop on my back and see what's going to happen to that conniving canine!

Now, the old German Shepherd sees the panther coming with the squirrel on his back and thinks, 'What am I going to do now?', but instead of running, the dog sits down with his back to his attackers, pretending he hasn't seen them yet, and just when they get close enough to hear, the old German Shepherd says...

'Where's that squirrel? I sent him off an hour ago to bring me another panther!

Moral of this story...

Don't mess with the old dogs... Age and skill will always overcome youth and treachery!

BS and brilliance only come with age and experience.

If you don't send this to five 'old' friends right away, there will be five fewer people laughing in the world.

Of course, I am in no way insinuating that any of you are old, some are just more 'youthfully challenged'.

You did notice the size of the print, didn't you?

Men and Women.

If Laura, Kate and Sarah go out for lunch, they will call each other Laura, Kate and Sarah.

If Mike, Dave and John go out, they will affectionately refer to each other as Fat Boy, Godzilla
and Four-eyes.

EATING OUT

* When the bill arrives, Mike, Dave and John will each throw in $20,
even though it's only for $32.50. None of them will have anything
smaller and none will actually admit they want change back.

* When the girls get their bill, out come the pocket calculators.

MONEY

* A man will pay $2 for a $1 item he needs.

* A woman will pay $1 for a $2 item that she doesn't need but it's on
sale.

BATHROOMS

* A man has six items in his bathroom: toothbrush and toothpaste,
shaving cream, razor, a bar of soap, and a towel ..

* The average number of items in the typical woman's bathroom is 337.
A man would not be able to identify more than 20 of these items.

ARGUMENTS

* A woman has the last word in any argument.
* Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument.

FUTURE

* A woman worries about the future until she gets a husband.
* A man never worries about the future until he gets a wife.

SUCCESS

* A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can
spend.
* A successful woman is one who can find such a man.

MARRIAGE

* A woman marries a man expecting he will change, but he doesn't.
* A man marries a woman expecting that she won't change, but she
does.

DRESSING UP

* A woman will dress up to go shopping, water the plants, empty the
trash, answer the phone, read a book, and get the mail.
* A man will dress up for weddings and funerals.

NATURAL

* Men wake up as good-looking as they went to bed.
* Women somehow deteriorate during the night.

OFFSPRING

* Ah, children. A woman knows all about her children. She knows about
dentist appointments and romances, best friends, favourite foods, secret
fears and hopes and dreams.
* A man is vaguely aware of some short people living in the house

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

A married man should forget his mistakes. There's no use in two people
remembering the same thing.
